The daughter of the late William Cecil Ray and Nedra Mae Brown Ray, she was born in Wetumpka, AL where she was a cheerleader and graduated high school. She later attended Troy State University where she was a Distinguished Gradate with the Registered Nursing Program (Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society). She worked as a Registered Nurse at Jackson Hospital for 18 years and was the Administrative Assistant with the American Red Cross. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of Fraser United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Stephens. Survivors include her daughters, Rose Stephens of Montgomery, AL and Deborah Stephens, of Fair Oaks, CA; sons, Rex Stephens of Stone Mountain, GA and Ron Stephens, of Huntsville, AL; brothers, Frank Ray of Montgomery, AL and Tommy Ray of Prattville, AL; sisters, Betty Turner of Lavonia, GA, Frances Walls, of Montgomery, AL, Peggy Nikolakis, of Mobile, AL and Linda Sue Mincey of Wetumpka, AL; Grandchildren, Rachel Stephens of Virginia, and Daniel Stephens of Huntsville, AL.
Visitation will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a graveside service to follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made in her honor to the American Red Cross.
