

Jim was born July 18, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama and was the son of the late James P. Dannelly, Sr. and Oline Randall Dannelly. He was a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and the Chandler School of Theology at Emory University. He retired after 43 years of service with the Alabama West Florida conference of the United Methodist Church. He began his ministry in Gonzalez, FL and Gulf Breeze, FL. He served as the senior pastor of First Methodist Church in Butler, AL, First Methodist in Troy, First Methodist in Auburn, and Aldersgate in Montgomery. He was the district superintendent of the Montgomery District and Associate Director of the Conference Council on Ministries. He was on numerous boards at both the conference and jurisdictional levels. He served as a member of the board of directors for the Central Alabama Emmaus community.
After his retirement, Jim enjoyed his "farm" in Grady, raising Christmas trees, pecan trees, gardening, and producing beautiful furniture and wood crafts for family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Carlotta J. (Bobbie) Dannelly; his children Pat Hoffman (John), Lynn Morris (Warren), and Steve Dannelly (Brenda); seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. William M. Dannelly.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, especially Mary Ann Tanner, Pam and Thomas Barbaree, and the members of the Community Baptist Church in Grady.
Visitation will be held on July 5 at 10:30 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 6610 Vaughn Road, Montgomery with a service to follow at 11:30. Graveside services at Alabama Heritage Cemetery will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Dannelly Family Christian Service Endowed Scholarship at Huntingdon College, 1500 East Fairview Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36106.
