

HAWK, James Thomas 70, a resident of Prattville, died peacefully on February 28, 2020 after battling cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Hawk and Amelia Collins Hawk. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Panomwan Sulkavasis Hawk; his son, James Mac Hawk, his brother Robert Hawk, his sister Jeanie Rae Kerner and additional family members. Jim was born in Trenton, New Jersey on April 21, 1949. He graduated from Hamilton East Steinert High School in the Hamilton Township, New Jersey. He studied computer science at Troy University. In 1971, while serving during the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force, he met and married the love of his life in Thailand. He honorably served his country for over 20+ years and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1990. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued his career in information technology serving in civil service and working with various private companies before retiring from Phacil Inc. as a project manager in 2013.
Upon his retirement, Jim became an active member at Church of the Highlands where he received his re-commitment baptism in 2018. Within the church he became a small group co-leader in Faith to Find a Job where he shared his wisdom, helped members create resumes and find jobs. In addition to serving in the church, Jim was a member of the Memphis Serial Grillers, a barbecue team, which competed within the Memphis BBQ Network. He was able to attend numerous barbeque contests, which included Memphis in May. In addition, Jim was an avid golfer and loved to watch NASCAR.
He was a father, a husband and a leader. His joy, wisdom, dreams, and storytelling will be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Church of the Highlands, or the American Cancer Society.
A graveside service with military honors at Alabama National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
