FITZGERALD, John Frank Fitzgerald, age 91, was called Home to be with the Lord Thursday morning September 1, 2016. "Big Daddy", as he was affectionately called was truly a self-made man. Orphaned at age 7 he was raised in central Alabama, South Georgia and Florida. At age 16 he joined the Marines to serve his country. He served in various World War II campaigns in the Pacific. Upon coming home from the war he returned to the grocery business and met the love of his life, Nadie Lacy Dollar, in Waycross, Georgia in 1947. John is survived by his four sons, Danny, Darrell, Stan and David, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela. He had a 47 year career with Winn Dixie stores and will be missed by the many people he has worked with, influenced and befriended. He always strived for excellence and consistently accomplished it. Rest well good friend, you earned it. The family will receive friends at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, September 3rd from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by a brief parlor service.
