Johnnie Eugene "Gene" Flournoy

Johnnie Eugene “Gene” Flournoy passed away at his home in Shorter, Alabama on July 31, 2016 at the age of 72. He was surrounded by family and friends when he received his call to enter God’s Kingdom. He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Stallings Flournoy and his father, Johnnie Flournoy. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wynell Brown Flournoy and his daughter, Tammy Flournoy Faucheux wife of David. Tammy provided him with three granddaughters; Jennifer Dawkins, Nikki Dawkins Patterson wife of Luke, Shelby Faucheux and one grandson, John-David Cole Faucheux. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Scott Flournoy who provided him with his daughter-in-law Carla Flournoy Cole now married to Steven E. Cole. They provided him with two granddaughters, Lauren Flournoy Davis wife of Eugene, and Jean Marie Flournoy Wilson wife of Houston and one great grandson Barrett Wilson. He is also survived by his brother Bobby Flournoy and his wife Patsy and their children and grandchildren as well as his special cousin JT Hallman and wife Ann and his uncle Clifford Stallings and his wife Marcelle. He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-laws; Chuck and Elea Peppers, Wayne and Marie Woodfin, Neil Reddish, Barbara Brown, Edward and Mary Brown, Earl and Melinda Brown, Lillian and Dan Stephens and a host of nieces and nephews. Gene was born in Roanoke, Alabama and graduated from Goodwater High School. He retired from Delta Airlines after 30 years of service from April 1964 to April 1994. He was most recently employed by Littlefield Corporation. He was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church and a member of the Kline Johnson Sunday School class. In the community Gene was involved with Rural Community Fire Protection, the Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments, a number of local charities and he hosted Hunts for the Wounded Warriors on his property. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016 at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Celebration of Gene’s life will be held at Eastern Hills Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016 beginning at 3:00 pm with visitation an hour prior.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Flournoy, Greg Adams, Ricky Stacy, Mickey Stevens, Bryan Braseli, and Harold Nettles. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kline Johnson Sunday School Class.
