

Mahalia confessed her life to Christ at an early age and joined the New Home Baptist Church in Mount Meigs, Alabama. She later united with King Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Earlier this year, Mahalia rejoined New Home Baptist Church-Mount Meigs where she remained faithful until her home-going on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
Mahalia was educated at Georgia Washington High School in Mount Meigs, Alabama, graduating with the Class of 1969.
Mahalia met and married the late John Kirk, Sr. After their union, Mahalia decided to join King Hill Missionary Baptist Church where her husband was a member.
Mahalia was a dedicated employee of Russell Corporation and later, GKN Aerospace of Alabama. She retired from GKN Aerospace in 2019.
To know Mahalia was to know a true child of God. She didn’t mind doing whatever she could for anyone. If she was offered money for taking a friend somewhere, she would quickly reply with “I don’t want to lose my blessings” and not accept the token. Mahalia was an inspirational Prayer Warrior who prayed many fervent prayers. She was always ready to talk to God. She was an active member on several Prayer Lines. Some of the Prayer Lines had participants from all over the United States and many recognized her voice as well as her prayers. She also participated on several Bible Study Lines. Mahalia will truly be missed.
Over the years, Mahalia was involved in many organizations and religious affiliations. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, Missionary Department, Women’s Outreach Ministry, Antioch District and Eastwood Villa Homeowners Association. She was Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Deaconess President, Sunday School teacher for Adult and children, and Choir Member.
Mahalia was preceded in death by her parents (Addie Mae Jackson and Charlie Jackson); husband, John Kirk, Sr, her son, Son John Kirk, Jr, and sister, Rosa Jones.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories one loving son, Shawn (Katrina) Kirk of Montgomery, AL, one loving daughter, Carlos Frank of Montgomery, AL; two sisters, Emma (Jimmy) Thomas of Montgomery, AL and Dollye Jackson Poles of Selma, AL, one sister in law, Maliscie Kirk of Montgomery, AL, three loving grandchildren, Elijah Kirk of Sterling, IL, Katelyn and Kelsey Kirk of Montgomery, AL and a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends, classmates and church family.
