Nicolas Christian Homsher, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed from this world on Friday, May 16, 2025. Born to Christine and Luther Homsher on April 2, 1999, Nicolas was from the first moment of life a curious and inquisitive young man.
Nic's wit and dry humor were legendary. He always seemed to have a knack for the right words at the right time. Nic had a great interest in computers from his youth, having taught himself to code by the time he was an early teen. Nic attended Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School where he met many friends and a wonderful teacher who helped Nic get his career started with an internship in computers that led him in his career choice as a computer software engineer for the Department of Defense. Nic had a great love for music (always knowing what song to pick for the right moment) television shows, books, movies not merely as a consumer but most of all as one who could appraise the merits or demerits of such works (Yes, he proudly kept a book where he wrote down his observations analyzing plot, character development, camera angles, lighting, you name it, he had a thought about it!).
Nic also took great pleasure in trying new things in the kitchen, like making his own sauces for dipping, proudly setting up and arranging his own charcuterie trays to entertain his friends, and his recent purchase of a sous vide that he enjoyed using to cook the best steaks he ever had! While Nic had a great appreciation of technology, it was his love for the outdoors and the freedom it promised that excited him. A typical Saturday for him usually involved a journey to a park (even in Birmingham on occasion) with the “love of his life” Arwen, his German Shepherd that Nic was always bragging about. Arwen was the first addition to his home that he purchased technically when he was 23 which he liked to remind us about (Nic would turn 24 the next day). Nic always had a love for dogs that began with our family dog Kia, who provided Nic with so much joy after enduring the loss of his Dad when he was but 4 years old. But the story of Nic is incomplete without mentioning his great love for both his family and his friends and his unassuming but abiding faith that led him to faithfully attend the 5 p.m. Sunday Mass at St. Bede Parish. From being a loving and devoted brother to his sisters and brothers (Nic never failed to step up when a need arose, usually with never needing to be asked) to a loyal and committed friend, and dedicated co-worker who would always lend a hand without any fanfare.
Those who knew him would say of Nic “he was a good man.” But of all the people in his life, one stood out above all the rest and that was his undying love for his mother, Christine. Yes, Nic was a Mama’s Boy, in the best and most truest sense. From recommending the latest show to watch (he was unimpressed with most recent offerings) to just hanging out with her, to the perfunctory check in phone call, but most of all to their usually bi-weekly Friday dates to Costco or a local Mexican restaurant where he would always insist on treating (he would have it no other way).
Nicolas was preceded in death by his father Luther Franklin Homsher.
Nicolas leaves behind his mother Christine and his step-father Tom Riello, his sister Sara (Joseph) Tran, his brothers Luther (Tara) Homsher, Anthony Homsher, Peter Riello, and his sister Juliana Riello, as well as his nieces and nephews, Emily Tran, Marie Tran, Noah Tran, Sebastian Tran and Evelynne Homsher. Nic also leaves behind so many wonderful and supportive friends and colleagues, as well as his grandparents Matilda and Sal Negron, Lynne and Nick Zakucia, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him so dearly.
There are no words that can adequately express just who Nicolas Christian Homsher was and is. Nicolas please do pray for us to carry this loss of your life and we shall pray for you, and until we meet again, when every tear shall be wiped from our eyes and behold all things are made new, rest well beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend.
