
NEWELL, Mrs. Sadie Pridgen, age 85, passed away October 2, 2011, at her Montgomery home. Mrs. Newell was born in Laurel Hill, Florida, on June 14, 1926. She graduated from Samson High School, Samson, Alabama, and attended Massey-Draughon Business School in Montgomery. She married W. S. Newell on May 10, 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Newell embarked upon a journey of road-building.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William S. Newell, and grandson, Matthew Newell. She is survived by her sons, Sam Newell (Althea) and Keith Newell (Emily), five grandchildren: Will, Hope Dean (Noah), Daniel, Mitchell, and Emily Anne, one great grandson, her sister in law, Sara Newell Brock, and niece, Fay Pridgen Kelsoe.
She was a member of the Iona Fontaine Sunday School class and WMU at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She served as a Pink Lady with Baptist Hospitals in the Montgomery area for many years. She was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind from 1978 – 1982.
Family and friends will gather for a Graveside Service to be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at Alabama Heritage Cemetery, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36117, with Dr. Mickey Castleberry and Dr. Michael Cassity officiating. Pallbearers are Mark Bowden, Paul Bowden, Don Hoggle, David Rhodes, Earlie Rivers, and Eddie Spivey.
