Sherry Lee Dzialo, departed this life in the early evening hours of January 21, 2024, after an extended illness. Sherry was a fraternal twin born October 17, 1946, along with her brother Michael, to Clarence and Helen Edmiston, in Ogden, Utah. Sherry spent her formative years as a military brat living with her family in places like England and Japan. She graduated in 1965 from Lompoc High School, CA. Sherry was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to so many. Sherry was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dzialo, her parents, Clarence and Helen Edmiston, her beloved granddaughter, Makenzie Rae Martin, and her stepson, Mark Dzialo.
Sherry was a beautiful woman with an amazing sense of style, rarely seen without full makeup and hair perfectly in place, yet still hated to have her picture taken. She loved to travel, shop, and spend time with her family. She was an excellent cook, homemaker, and gift giver. She was the most generous, thoughtful, kind, and forgiving soul with a love for neighborhood stray animals always making sure they were well fed and looked after. She worked for many years as an Executive Secretary at Warrior Tractor and Equipment Company in Wetumpka, AL until her retirement. Sherry later married her second husband, Walter Dzialo a retired Lieutenant Colonel, Air Force Veteran. Sherry and Walt sponsored many foreign officer families attending professional allied military education at Maxwell Air Force Base. Sherry also contributed generously to multiple philanthropic charities during her life, and they lived happily in Montgomery until his passing.
Over the last few years, as a resident of The Crossings Assisted Living Facility, Sherry was looked upon as the Ambassador of the facility welcoming all new residents, making sure they were settled and had everything they needed to feel welcome in their new living environment. Upon her passing the residents and staff stopped by to express their condolences and love for Sherry. Many statements were made like “her passing really hurts and she will be truly missed not only for her class and style, but the person she was to everyone she met and cared for during her time in the facility”.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kimberly (Andy) Martin, her son, Kevin (Linda) Lauer, her step-daughter, Robin (Sean) Hatton, her step-son Todd (Diane) Dzialo, her brother, Michael (Monica) Edmiston, her sister, Tari Brightwell, her six grandchildren; Lauren (Ryan) Warner, Gabrielle (Trey) King, Annah Lauer, Dylan (Mary Frances) Martin, Alexander and Nicole Hatton, and her eight great-grandchildren.
On behalf of the family, we would like to express our sincere gratitude towards the staff and residents of The Crossings for the care and friendship to our mother.
Per her wishes, a private celebration of life will occur at the Alabama Heritage Funeral Home & Cemetery 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, Alabama 36117.
