

Shirley Anne (Shan) Till Russell, 82, a longtime resident of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on February, 28th after an extended illness. Mrs. Russell was born in 1942, the daughter of the late James Allen (J.A.) and Christine Waller Till of Hayneville, Alabama. Shan was a graduate of Hayneville High School and Auburn University. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Montgomery.
Mrs. Russell was a philanthropist and enjoyed serving her community through acts of service. She was a member of the Montgomery Junior Women's Club, a former board member of the Montgomery Family Sunshine Center, a Meals on Wheels volunteer, a member of the Thespians Club and the Francis Marion Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Shan loved genealogy and study of history. She enjoyed visiting local high schools to bestow awards to the DAR Essay Contest winners and DAR Good Citizenship Award winners. She and her late husband formed the Shan and Wayne Russell Charitable Foundation.
Shan was a devoted wife and mother. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, and love. Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly sixty-two years, Ernest Wayne Russell, Jr.; her parents, James Allen (J.A.) and Christine Waller Till; and her brother, James Waller Till. She is survived by her three children; Mitzi Russell McIntyre (Innes) of Montgomery, Rusty Russell (Amy) of Auburn, and Tina Russell Douglass (Jim) of Birmingham; her seven grandchildren, Matt McIntyre (Brooke), Caroline McIntyre Nichols (Hayden), Christina Douglass, Jay Douglass (Catherine), Russell McIntyre, Katie Mclntyre Tutt (Robert) and Anna Douglass; her great-grandchildren; Fletcher McIntyre, Davis Nichols, and baby girl McIntyre due in early March.
Shan was blessed with wonderful caregivers who have lovingly taken excellent care of her; Dee McIntyre, Annette Robinson, and Antinique Quinn. Pallbearers serving are Matt McIntyre, Jay Douglass, Russell McIntyre, Hayden Nichols, Robert Tutt, Clark Ward. Honorary Pallbearers are Innes McIntyre, Jim Douglass, and Mike Heartsill.
Donations may be made in her memory to Montgomery Family Sunshine Center or St. Jude Children's Hospital. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025 with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery, Alabama. Dr. Karl K. Stegall and Bishop Lawson Bryan will serve as officiants. Interment will occur immediately following at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
