

Thomas Lawrence White, Jr. passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 after battling a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lawrence and Louise Sego White. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jane White and four daughters; Kelli Golden (Wes), Jessica McDaniel, Christie Riley (Rick), and Tori White. He is also survived by four granddaughters and one grandson. Tom is survived by a brother, Emmett (Debbie) White, and two brother-in-laws, Tim (Rebecca) McCartha and Pat (Joyce) McCartha along with six nephews, their spouses, and children. Tom was born in Prattville, Alabama, on June 6, 1949. For more than four decades Tom served the State of Alabama and most recently he held the position of State Comptroller. Previously he served as the Chief Financial Officer at the Alabama Department of Public Health for twenty-two years as well as CFO for the Alabama Public Health Care Authority for fifteen years. Tom was on the Executive Committee for the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers, and Treasurers (NASACT) and was also the President-elect of the National Association of State Comptrollers (NASC). As dedicated as Tom was to serving the State of Alabama, he was just as dedicated to his family and was looking forward to retirement in the near future. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017. Visitation will be held at Alabama Heritage on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., and on Monday one hour prior to the service.
