Smith, Zane Robert, 60, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2014 after a lengthy illness. He was the son of Robert and Alma Jean Smith. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ramona; two sons, Erik (Crystal) Smith and Andrew (Lanie) Smith; two grandchildren, Emily and Elliott Smith; one brother, Ryan (Eileen) Smith; one sister, Joyce (Ralph) Smith; four nieces and one nephew. Through his love of baseball and softball, Zane touched many lives during his years as a coach in the Dixie Youth Baseball League and as an umpire in the Alabama Softball Association. Zane also loved music and played in several rock and roll bands for 30 years, as an original member of the Jukebox Five and The Time Bandits, among others. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Alabama Heritage Cemetery with Rev.
