Shirley Francis

Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. An avid fan of both the New Orleans Saints and LSU, she could not wait for football season to watch her beloved teams and cheer them on. Shirley enjoyed festivals of any kind, especially music festivals and Mardi Gras. She loved all kinds of music, but Rock N’ Roll was her favorite. She attended every concert she could, but her most memorable was Jimi Hendrix in 1969 and KISS in 2021 which she attended with her grandchildren. With her infectious enthusiasm, she never met a stranger and was constantly bringing new friends into her circle. An expert seamstress, she loved to sew and make clothes for friends and family. She brought so much joy to our world, but what gave her the most joy was spending time with her grand babies.

Those left behind to cherish Shirley's memories are her two daughters, Jealena Francis Gros, and her husband Chad, of Lafayette, LA, and Melinda Francis Tonglet and her husband Jason of Gretna, LA; her sisters, Elaine Fontenot of Rockport TX, Cheryl Aucoin Veillon and her husband Tim of Morgan City, LA, Sheila Aucoin Olsen and her husband Jerry of Eureka, KS, and one sister-in-law, Jane Ruiz Aucoin of Bayou L’Ourse, LA; and her grandchildren, Jackson and Josephine Tonglet.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Carey Francis, Jr.; her son, Wesley Francis; one brother, Terrance Aucoin, Sr.; one sister, Ann Aucoin; and one brother-in-law, Douglas Fontenot

A memorial visitation will be held for Shirley on Friday, March 1 from 10am until 2pm at Hargrave Funeral Home with a rosary being prayed a 1:30pm. A catholic prayer service will take place on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 2pm at Hargrave Funeral Home. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, graveside services will be held at a later date by the family.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Legacy Nursing Home of Morgan City, Franklin Foundational Hospital, and University Medical Center of New Orleans’ Trauma ICU.
