

Curtis was born on September 20, 1945 in Blockley England to George and Dorothy Gardenour. Curtis came to the United States in 1946 aboard the Queen Mary, he was just six months old. During his attendance at Orchard View School Curtis played Football as a quarterback, baseball, basketball, and ran track. He was also Homecoming King. Curtis graduated from Eastern Michigan University in January of 1969 and earned a letter in track.
In January of 1969 Curtis began his teaching career at Reeths-Puffer High School. He taught world geography and physical education. After many years of teaching Curtis had the idea to develop a program that would teach Health Sciences, including first aid and CPR. He went on to teach this for 15 years. He also coached baseball and football for many years.
Curtis and his wife Joann Tazelaar were married on December 21, 1968. They have celebrated 54 years of marriage together.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents George and Dorothy Gardenour, brother Gary, sister in law Dorothy Tazelaar, and brother-in-law Walter Tazelaar.
In accordance with Curt’s wishes a cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 4:00pm, at Ever Rest Funeral Home, 1783 E. Keating Ave., Muskegon. Officiating will be pastor Carlos Ramos.. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm prior to the service.
In Lieu of Flowers family would like Memorial contributions to be made to Harbor Hospice of Muskegon or Cancer & Hematology Centers of western Michigan.
