

Joseph H. Gonzalez Sr., age 95, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 surrounded by family. He was born March 27, 1926 in Aguascalientes, Mexico to the late Jesus and Antonia (Vasquez) Gonzalez. He moved with his family to Bad Axe, Michigan as an infant. He was a World War II veteran and was proud to continue that service as the VFW 446 Commander in Chief and Chaplin. He married the former Alta Apley on January 31, 1948.
Joe loved his family, the outdoors and he liked to stay busy! He liked to take walks or rides around his property. He enjoyed camping with his kids and grandkids on their river property. He liked to hunt and fish with his sons and sons-in-law. After retiring from Sappi Fine Paper in 1989, he and Alta traveled the country in their motorhome. They also loved to dance and take trips to the casino.
He is survived by his wife Alta of 73 years and their five children: Daughters, Rosalie Haas and Linda (Dr. John) Brissette and sons, Joseph H. (Donna) Gonzalez Jr., Rodney Gonzalez and Michael (Summer) Gonzalez. Grandchildren: Tina (David) Cariker, Lita (Brian) Fisher, Karina (Eric) Ulfsax, Drs. Catherine (John) Brissette-Watt, Shannon (David) Boothroyd, Angelea (Rodney) Anderson, Raechelle (Jeff Moore) Gonzalez, Dr. Emily (Mike King) Brissette, Charles Brissette, Nick and Charlie. Fifteen great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. His brother Ray (Rita) Gonzalez and sister-in-law, Ellena Gonzalez.
Preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren and son-in-law, David Haas.
