Hershey, Phillip Lee “Joe”, age 73, of Muskegon went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Born January 28, 1950 in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Beatrice (Campbell) and Paul Hershey, he was the second youngest of seven children. Joe graduated from Muskegon High School in 1968 and was drafted into the United States Army shortly thereafter. On March 25, 1972 he married Suzanne Olsen and together raised their four children.
Although his early career began in management with Winn Dixie Stores in West Palm Beach, Florida, Joe later moved back to Michigan where his entrepreneurial spirit and love for cars led him to open Hershey’s Auto Sales, a Muffler Man franchise, and his own auto repair shop. Joe had a strong passion for helping others, sharing the word of God, and serving those in his community. He was a member of Life Change Church, an Ordained Minister, and a licensed Chaplain serving as a spiritual mentor.
Spending time with his children and grandchildren, extended family, and friends was Joe’s greatest joy. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his sons Joseph Hershey, Jeffery (Danielle) Hershey, Jason Hershey; daughter Kimberly Hershey; grandchildren Miranda, Cameron, Dacotah, and Drew Hershey; great-grandchildren Alessia and Sienna Hershey; brother Paul (Sue) Hershey; sister Lois (Roger) Hanson; friend and former wife Suzanne Hershey and former mother-in-law Marjorie Olsen along with many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Beverly, Bill, Sharon, and Wayne.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 6-8 pm followed by a celebration of life and remembrance on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 11:00 am. Both will be held at Ever Rest Funeral Home 1783 E. Keating, Muskegon.
