Sarah Josephine Elwell

ELWELL, SARAH JOSEPHINE Sarah Josephine Elwell, "Jo", age 83, was called home and reunited with her recently departed husband, Elmer on February 14, 2014 at Lake Winona Manor in Winona, MN. She was born Sarah Josephine Buell in Owosso, MI to Henry Ivan Buell and Cornelia May Buell, nee McManus. Jo's family relocated to Bear Lake, Manistee County, MI when she was about six years old. She attended Bear Lake schools and graduated from Hackley School of Nursing in 1953. Jo was united in marriage to Elmer Dell Elwell, Jr. "Bud" at Bear Lake, MI in 1954. To this union was born a son and twin daughters. Jo worked as a Registered Nurse for Hackley Hospital, Muskegon, MI where she was the Head Nurse on the pediatric floor for many years. She retired from nursing in 1994. Bud and Jo moved to a retirement community in Leesburg, FL, purchased a pontoon boat and enjoyed 11 years of active retirement living. She thoroughly enjoyed working on any kind of craft project, but her talents were knitting and crocheting. She also loved music of all kinds. Jo had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. When she got that sparkle in her eye and that beautiful sly grin, you knew she was up to something and the sounds of laughter would soon follow. Jo will be sadly missed by her son, Eric (Sue) Elwell of Muskegon and their children Eric (Ashley), Christopher (Marisol), and Amanda (Alan); by her daughter Sharon's children, Lindsey (John) and C.J. (Yoajaira); a daughter, Karen (LeRoy) Pronschinske of Mondovi, WI and her daughter, Tami; her great-grandchildren: Sarah, Joshua, Bailey, Jonathan, Rian, Harian, Candice, Thomas, Jordan, Christopher, Andrew, Zeva, Trinity, Blake and Liam; her sisters, Shirley (Glenn) Meteer of Maple City, MI, June (Gordon) Armstrong of Honor, MI, and Jean Mickelsen of Pensacola, FL; a sister-in-law, Sharlene (Dick) Shafer of Fruitport; and many nieces and nephews. Jo was preceded in death by, her parents, Henry "Ivan" and Cornelia "May" Buell; her Husband of 59 years, Elmer Dell Elwell, Jr. who passed away on January 31, 2014; a brother, Robert Buell; a daughter, Sharon ZeBranek; brothers-in-law, Donald Mickelsen and Robert Elwell; and sisters-in law, Connie Elwell and Joyce Buell. A joint Memorial Service for Bud and Jo Elwell will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Ever Rest Funeral Home & Chapel, 1783 E. Keating Ave., Muskegon, MI. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Sunrise Memorial Gardens immediately following the Memorial Service.
