

Barbara was born to Agnes & Elvey Martin on September 19, 1960 in Gweru, Zimbabwe (Gwelo, Southern Rhodesia) Africa.
When Barbara was 2.5 years old the family moved to Vancouver, BC where Barbara grew up. She attended John Henderson Elementary School then graduated from John Oliver High School in 1978. From there she attended UBC in the fall of 1978 where she received her teaching certificate, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in French in 1982. She completed another year of schooling to receive her teaching diploma in 1983.
She taught French both in the private and public school system. At her first job in the private sector she taught at Seacliff Christian School and also ran the library. In 1989 she was hired at Princess Margret School in Surrey, where she became Department Head after 2 years of teaching. In 2006 she accepted a position at a brand new school Panorama Ridge in September 2006 till 2013. From there she left classroom teaching and worked at the Surrey district as a language co-ordinator till she retired at the age of 55 in September 2015.
Barbara moved to Nanaimo in April 2017, after her great niece and nephew were born, where she resided in the same house with her mother, sister and brother-in-law till she passed away.
Her faith in her Savior Jesus Christ sustained her in the months following her cancer diagnosis in November 2022.
She is survived by her mother Agnes Martin and her only sister Karen Ferguson (Norman) and her nephew Matthew Ferguson (Keri), and their children Parker & Paisley.
Barbara is predeceased by her father Elvey Martin.
Barb will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends she had.
