I am so saddened to learn of Barbra’s passing,  My brother, Paul, and I got to know Barbara in high school.  We spent some together after graduation as well. We all enjoyed talking about current events and ,literature.  Barbara was the only who could drive.  I seem to recall Barbara having a red car in those days,  We went to several plays at the Vancouver Playhouse.  Everytime, I drive by Sixteenth and Burrard - that was her route from downtown - I recall those evenings when Barbara drove us home and our conversations about the shows.   I last saw Barbara at the high school reunion around 2018.  The moment I saw Barbara’s beautiful smile, we started chatting as if we had just  met a few days ago instead of years ago.  Barbara was funny, generous, kind and her friendship made my high school years memorable.  I cherish the times we shared and will always remember Barbara.  

I was filled with sadness in hearing of Barb's passing. I first met Barb when I got hired at Princess Margaret in 1993.  Barb was well known for her work ethic, organization, dedication, and love for French language & culture - traits that helped to make her a role model and leader in teaching.  And also, wow... could she ever make me laugh.
We worked together for 13 years but it wasn't until she left for Panorama Ridge that we really started to connect.  In a odd twist of events, I was put in charge of Barb's send off from Princess Margaret.   It was quite cheeky, with good-natured humour, and some zingers thrown in... just the way I thought Barb would like it.  And she really did.  I was so glad that it had made her happy.
From that moment on, Barb and I had a new connection; whenever I saw her at district events or retirements, we we would have the best talks, as though no time had passed.  What I learned about Barb over the years was that she was a beautiful person - inside and out - and a brave person, willing to stand by her convictions with courage. 
Our last conversation happened a few years back at Phil Robinson's wake at the 120 pub in Delta.  We laughed and commiserated about the state of the world in general, and education in particular, and when it was time to say good bye I remember her, Mindy Hardiman, and I all expressing a genuine desire to keep in touch.  And  I thought we'd have more opportunities to brighten each other's day and reconnect throughout the years, but it was not to be.  I didn't even know that Barb was ill.  I truly wish I had one more chance to talk to her, to thank her,  and to say goodbye.  Rest in peace, Barb.

I worked with Barb at Panorama Ridge Secondary. Barb was a senior teacher at the time and she was a mentor to me.  She was a wise, hard-working, funny, creative, dedicated teacher who was passionate about French.  I learned from Barb that if I wanted to use the photocopier without any interruptions that I would have to get to work early and so I did and have continued to do so.  Also, Barb had the best parking spot too! When Barb retired, the parking spot became mine.

Barb will always be in my heart.

Barb was a one of a kind. In the short time I knew her, I realized several things about her:

1) She was a passionate teacher who poured all her energy and skills into her craft.
2) She had a wicked sense of humour that brought tears to my eyes. 
3) She lived her life on her own terms with kindness and loyalty.

Barb will be remembered fondly.


I knew Barb from her time at Panorama Ridge Secondary School in Surrey. I have many good memories of her mentorship and involvement as a department head there.  I am very sad to hear of her passing. My condolences to her friends and family during this time. She leaves behind many good memories, and a lasting legacy in the teaching world. She won't soon be forgotten.  


I worked with Barb at Panorama Ridge Secondary until she retired. Barb and I worked in different departments, but we often met for lunch, which was always a highlight of my day! Barb had a wild sense of humour combined with a  candid, honest and compassionate spirit. I loved her willingness to laugh at herself and to bring joy to a room. I will miss her. My deepest sympathies are extended  to her family and loved ones.  I am sending prayers up to Heaven for her!! 

It was a privilege to work alongside Barb at PM and PR. Her enthusiasm for her subject and her sense of fun were inspiring. I will cherish memories of the wide range of topics covered in Mindy Hardiman's classroom over tea in the mornings. 

I am so very sorry to learn of Barb's passing.  She was a colleague of mine from the Surrey School District.  While I never taught at the same school as Barb, I worked with her on many committees in the district.  We even shared a trip to Edmonton to attend a Language Teacher's conference, and I have very fond memories of time spent with her there.  Barb was fun.  Laughter followed her.  
I will always remember her as an extremely hardworking teacher and as a supportive, reliable, and friendly colleague who loved being with other people.  My deepest condolences to her family and friends.  


Barb was a colleague of mine at PM, who along with others, I sat and ate lunch with everyday.  Over the years we enjoyed Barb’s unique sense of humor, often irreverent and designed to get a rise out of someone.  She liked to laugh and have fun.  However, Barb was also a dedicated professional providing well-executed lessons for her students.  She never extinguished the flame she held for her ex-husband and kept her faith strong.  After retirement, I would accidentally meet Barb, usually doing or helping someone from the church community. Above all, she was an individual, passionate about her beliefs, who loved learning and living life. Somewhere in heaven, a French lesson has begun.

So sorry to hear of Barbara’s passing and my sincere condolences to her family for your loss. Barbara and Bentley shared many a dog walk  with myself and others at Cartier Place and always was a pleasure to be around. A lovely lady who will be greatly missed.

Please accept my sincere condolences. I knew Barb when she lived at Cartier Place in Surrey. She always had a smile and a good word for everyone. We missed her when she left for Nanaimo and  I will never forget her.

So sad to hear of Barb's passing.  I knew her just in recent years, as an ardent supporter of  Canadian Rights and Freedoms, and was invigorated by her presence at rallies.  She stood and declared her values and principles, and I respected and admired her for that.
