It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Dr. David Home Clairmont Wilson. He was surrounded with love at the time of his death, with his wife, four children, their spouses, grandchildren, and the supportive staff of the care home by his side.
David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and physician. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jean, his children David, Kirsten, Callum (Anita), Sara (Doran), his cherished grandchildren: Emily, Callum, Euan, Ailsa, Claire, Cameron, and Kirsten. He also leaves behind his sister in law- Kirsten, and many nieces and nephews in Scotland.
David was born in Glasgow, and raised in Largs. He attended the University of Glasgow, where he studied medicine and met the love of his life, Jean, in 1958. They married in 1963 and immigrated to Nanaimo, B.C. in 1967. There, David practiced medicine at the Medical Arts Center focusing on obstetrics, family medicine, and working in Emergency as a surgeon.
Sunset Beach, Lantzville became David’s forever home and sanctuary. He found joy and peace at the beach house tending to his roses, fishing with his children, lounging in his hammock whilst losing himself in history books, newspapers, and medical journals. A lover of literature, David especially enjoyed the poetry of Robert Burns whom he was a direct descendant of.
David was respected and admired by his family, his patients, colleagues, and friends. He will be remembered for his selflessness, compassion, gentle nature, encyclopedic knowledge, unwavering integrity, and of course his 'gift of the gab'. A proud Scot, he faced many medical challenges in his later years with quiet strength and perseverance. His time had come, and in the words of the poet Robert Burns: “An honest man here lies at rest.”
The family extends a heartfelt thank- you to the staff at Dufferin Care Home, whose kindness and care enriched David’s final years, Dr. Kaban and colleagues from the Medical Arts Center, and Dr. Kim King for their dedicated support.
As per David’s request there will be no service.
