Dorothy was born on February 15, 1929 in Liverton Mines, North Yorkshire, England where she and her five brothers and sisters were raised. Mom spoke fondly of her childhood days spent playing around the old ironstone mine and nearby woods. She was a child of nature, happiest while catching tadpoles and newts, and collecting jars of frog spawn while walking in the woods.
Mom married John Hampson in North Yorkshire and began a new chapter of life moving to Birch Hills, Saskatchewan where together they raised seven children. Then life moved them to Lantzville, B.C. and eventually Mom moved to Extension, B.C. where she found peace with her dogs on her small acreage, tending to her garden and flowers, enjoying the quiet beauty around her.
Mom was known for her cooking and baking – there was always meals or treats for her family. Mom loved sports, especially her Toronto Blue Jays baseball team, where everyone knew not to call her while the game was on the telly. The game show Jeopardy was also a favourite. Mom adored all the old movies and could name off all the actors playing roles.
Mom’s greatest legacy is her family. She will be deeply missed by her seven children, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. We will carry her love forward and hope to honour her by continuing her tradition – especially her cherished welsh cakes and corn beef pies.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at AgeCare Malaspina for the kindness and compassion they showed our Mom.
Mom, your love and spirit will remain with us always.
