Doug was born May 22, 1933 at the Old Nanaimo Hospital to James and Elizabeth (Wilson), a brother for June and Joan.
They lived in South Wellington until 1947 when they moved to “Sleepy Hollow Farm” on Somenos Lake in Duncan.
After Elizabeth’s passing Jim married Grace Ormond and the family welcomed her children: Margaret Jean, Rob, Gay and Granger, then their youngest son Joe.
Doug met Rose Welcher and they married in 1955. They were blessed with the arrival of 3 daughters; Debra, Karyn and Marina. The family moved to Nanaimo in 1961.
They were very close to both sides of their extended families and at different times offered a home to many.
Jim and Elizabeth had a cabin on Horne Lake then Doug and Rose owned it. It was a very special place for all of the Taylor family over 5 generations.
In 1975 Doug’s family moved into the house on Tenth Street. It became a gathering place for many family and friends. They celebrated special occasions and supported each other through difficult times.
Over the years they enjoyed the arrivals of 5 grandchildren and then a total of 9 great grands.
From a young age Doug was interested in all things mechanical. He worked as a heavy duty mechanic, owned Doug’s Sales and Service and spent time serving in the Canadian Coast Guard.
Private internment of ashes into the Taylor family plot at the Old Nanaimo City Cemetery.
