It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Evangeline (Vangie) Sebastiano, age 94 of Nanaimo BC. Vangie passed away peacefully on 22 May 2023 at Dufferin Place Care home where she had spent the last few months.
Vangie was pre-deceased by her parents Winifred and Sydney Wickham, Husband Sam, Daughter Bonnie, and brothers Alec and George. She is survived by her daughter Brenda (Gary), Sons Bill (Dini) and Robert (Shelly), sisters Lona and Florence, brothers Johnny and Tom as well as numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren.
Vangie or Eva as some of her close family called her was born in Vermilion Alberta and spent her early years on the family farm near Lloydminister, Saskatchewan. Upon finishing school she moved for work to Vancouver where she spent a brief time before meeting Sam, got married and moved to Nanaimo, where they settled and raised our family.
Over her 70 plus years in Nanaimo she was involved in numerous clubs and hobbies such as Curling Club, Eagles, Calorie Counters and Knitting to name a few. When the children were in school she decided to go back to work where she tried a few different jobs such as Driving Instructor and Waitressing. She stuck with waitressing where she excelled, working at the Malaspina Hotel and finally the NHL restaurant until she retired. Vangie and Sam loved to travel to warm destinations, and also cruising. And after both were retired, fishing at China Creek was their new home for many summers. She loved entertaining and was a great cook. Every Sunday friends and family would come for coffee and fresh baking.
Vangie has touched the hearts of many over the years and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
