Evelyn is survived by her loving family – daughters Jennifer Carter, Kimberley Aines (Yaris Aftanas); grandchildren Zachary Carter, Beau and Ireland Carter Movold; sister Penny Smidts (Gordon); nieces Danielle Vawter (Jeff) and Megan Crosson.
Evelyn and her husband moved to Port Alberni in 1965 where they started and raised their family. In 1986, she started her career as an LPN working in many Island Hospitals. She eventually opened her own senior’s residence until she retired in 2008.
In retirement, Evelyn was busier than ever. Throughout her life, spending time with her family was #1 and her love of gathering us all around the dinner table will live on in us forever. Always open to new adventures, she loved travelling, hiking, a fun road trip with the ladies, and going fishing in Sooke with her friend May.
Evelyn had the best sense of humour and could make everyone laugh, whether it was at a card game, the curling rink, a dinner party or a night out dancing. She was an avid reader and gardener and loved nothing more than a night out at the theatre. She met so many wonderful people over the years and was grateful for all of the friendships.
Evelyn’s sister Penny was one of the most important people in her life. Penny was not only her sister but her best friend. Always there for each other, it gave mom so much peace and comfort having Penny by her side. We appreciate and thank Aunty Penny so much and are grateful for her love and support.
The family would also like to thank Evelyn’s friends for their kind words and support, as well as the doctors and nurses who provided compassion and excellent care to our mother.
“We will miss you every day, but you live on in the very fabric of our souls,
and in everything we touch.
Your gift of how to love and still always have room in your heart for more,
is one we will share with each other and those around us forever.”
At this time, there will be no service but a Celebration of Life may be announced at a future date.
