“Mom” as we liked to call her, was officially introduced to the community of South Porcupine as Jacqaline Donnellda Shaver, but was Donnie or Donnellda to all who knew her.
Donnellda was a devoted nurse who spent 30 years caring for others with compassion and dedication at Anson General Hospital in Iroquois Falls, Ontario. Donnellda and Jack retired to Cedar BC in 1992, where she volunteered to help the elderly in the community for many years, took an active role in the United Church, and enjoyed her bridge club and coffee friends.
Donnie was very close with her siblings, Margaret Gemme (deceased), Dorothy (Peggy) Lamothe, Gwendolyn Rodgers, and Robert Shaver. She is also survived by her two children, James William McGrath (Hanh Nguyen) and Tammy Lee McGrath (Carey-Ann Marshall), and their grandchildren, Tuan Tron, Clare Williamson, Mackenzie McGrath Smith (deceased), and James Williamson.
Donnie will be deeply missed by the multitude of friends and family members that she arrived at the “finish line” ahead of. She will be fondly remembered for her caring spirit, her resilience, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.
Her celebration of life will be held at Cedar United Church,1644 Cedar Road, Nanaimo BC on Saturday, May 23rd at 11:00am followed by refreshments. Donnellda and Jack will be interned at 2:30 pm at Cedar Memorial Gardens, 2347 Cedar Road, Nanaimo BC. All are welcome to attend.
