

John Carswell Bennett, affectionately known as Jack, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by his three children, Dean, Jordan, and Samantha. Born on December 10, 1949, in Nanaimo, Jack was a fourth-generation resident, deeply rooted in the community he proudly called home.
Jack spent more than 40 years working for S. Madill, where he was known for his dedication, strong work ethic, and unwavering sense of fairness. As a union representative and advocate for workers’ rights, he stood up for others and believed deeply in doing what was right.
In his later years, Jack found friendship and purpose through his involvement with the Ladysmith Maritime Society, which became an important and meaningful part of his life. His love for the water, boating, and his family always remained his top priority.
Jack is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, his brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Edna Bennett, and his two sisters, Lynn Poschmann and Judy Ahola.
Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026 at 11:00am, at Sands Funeral Home in Nanaimo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ladysmith Maritime Society in Jack’s memory.
