John was born in Holland August 9, 1937. He and his family survived the war then immigrated to Canada in 1952 where John became a teacher. For over 40 years, he shared his knowledge and wisdom and shaped the lives of countless students. Throughout his life, whether as a teacher a father or a friend, John’s personal values of honesty, integrity and hard work influenced all who knew him. John was a great sports fan and loved football, soccer and hockey, but the greatest love in his life was his wife and the family they created over the 65 years they enjoyed together.
John is survived by his wife Margaret, children Doreen (Gordon), Brenda (Tim) and Christopher, grand children, Britta (Kyle), Donald (Kacy), Lindsey, Garth (Kayla), Steven, Ava, Benjamine and Taylor, and great grandchildren Kaylen, Jackson, Carter, Madeline, Liam, and Grayson. John is also survived by his brother Harry (Rose) in Saskatchewan and sister Teena (Greg) in Portugal.
John passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026 but lives on in the hearts and minds of all those who had the pleasure and joy of knowing him, and we are grateful for the privilege of having shared life with him. With love we shall leave you in peace, and with respect we bid you a fond farewell.
