It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph "Sam" Samuel Parkes, born in Calgary, Alberta, December 8, 1977. He passed away suddenly in Port Alberni, British Columbia on April 26, 2021.

Sam is survived by his spouse Vicky Thomas and stepchildren Taneesha, Tianna and Mathew; his loving mother Etta Gay Nickol (Charles); loving father Robert Samuel Parkes; sister Bonnie Nell Parkes (Troy); neice Lennon; step siblings Curtis Nickol (Leah), Dan Nickol (Shar) and Erin Nickol (David) and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Sam was known for his bright smile, kind heart, quirky sense of humour and adventurous spirit. He loved animals, especially his and Vicky's dogs, Kona and Daisy. Sam was always young at heart and had a unique ability to make people laugh.

Sam was proud of his 15 year career as an Ironworker. He was passionate about spending the time he had off work, fishing, hiking, boating and enjoying the outdoors with Vicky and the kids.

My deepest condolences to Vicky and her family, Bob, Gay, and Bonnie for their devastating loss. I especially remember Joey (Sam) and Kenny playing as little toddlers in Calgary...like two peas in a pod! In later years, I would see Sam periodically when he and Vicky visited Nanaimo or when we were camping...he always had a big hug and a 'hi Auntie Mo' for me.

The laughter he had every SINGLE time he got me to hold the doors of his trucks for “one minute” to put in his door pins that turned in to hours, all the wrenching 🔧 he’s taught me to do on my own trucks now 💜 always embraced my crocheting as you can tell with the sock monkey ! I’m more of an independent women now
