With heavy hearts, the Pelletier family announces the passing of Marc Valmont Pelletier, who left us peacefully on January 16th, 2024, in his hometown of Nanaimo, BC. Born on August 22nd, 1956, in Victoria, B.C., Marc was best known for his love of the great outdoors, a knack for storytelling, and an extremely colourful sense of humour.
Marc's passion for all things outdoors was evident from his earliest days. Marc was always most at home in some remote location, either on a boat with a line in the water or on a hunting trip with his boys.
In his professional life, Marc started his career as a faller, a role that took him across the rugged landscape of the West Coast that he adored. Eventually, Marc's professional path circled back to his hometown, where he built a successful career in the building supply industry. Starting at Sunglow and then eventually ending his career as manager of Lantzville’s Slegg Lumber.
Born to Valmont and Jeanne Pelletier, Marc was the second oldest of their five children: Rachelle, Romaine, Cal and Matt. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his five children, Tyler (Lauren), Joel (Alesha), Carly (Armando), Bryden (Heather), and Nova (Travis), and his seven adored grandchildren, Hunter, Colton, Eva, Brooks, Levi, Bennett, and Loden who knew that a visit to Papa Marc's house guaranteed them a joke, a pocket full of money or a giant freezee, often times right before they were set to eat dinner.
Marc's enthusiasm for Bob Seger's music was legendary. His five children fondly recall being forced to listen to Seger's greatest hits on repeat during long car journeys. These moments, filled with music and laughter, are cherished memories that will live on in their hearts.
When it came to his humour, you could say it was about as subtle as a deer in headlights, and he had a knack for lightening up the tensest moments, usually with a one-liner that left you chuckling long after. His family and friends knew him as a man who could find the humour in any situation, and let’s be honest, he would probably want you to find some in this situation.
Marc, may your lines always be tight, your aim true, and your jokes be more colourful than ever. You will be missed, but your stories and laughter will continue to bring joy to all who knew you.
