We are saddened to announce the passing of Marlene, our beloved mother and grandmother. She passed away at NRGH Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her children. She fought cancer with courage and instinctively knew when it was time - she is now at rest. Left to mourn are her daughter, Gina; son, Brody; and grandchildren, Justin and Capri of Nanaimo.
Marlene was known for a fierce loyalty towards her family. She also had a heart for her neighbours and often sat outside encouraging and chatting up the children at her complex. The kids respected her even when she would correct their behaviour.
Marlene’s working career included being employed as a care aide and a support worker in the crisis care. During this time, she demonstrated her love and concern for those experiencing life difficulties.
We would like to thank all her family and friends who cared for her during this most difficult time. A special thanks to her family physician, the cancer clinic in Victoria, the palliative unit at NRGH, and of course long-time friend, Tracy, for stepping in during Marlene’s final days.
A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be held at the Moose Hall in Nanaimo, BC on November 19th, 2022 at 1:00pm.
