Murray Allan Penhale, known by most as AL, passed away peacefully at Dufferin Place in Nanaimo on Saturday July 15, 2023 - shortly after his 98th birthday. Although he was a complicated man, he had a gentle heart, and became increasingly mellow with age.
He always had a big smile and encouraging word for everyone he met, and was grateful for every day, no matter what it brought him. He loved his children and extended family beyond words, including his friends and caregivers at Dufferin Place. It’s hard to imagine a world without his infectious personality and positive attitude, leading the way. May we all strive to be more like him and honour his legacy.
Al leaves behind six children- Marilyn, Barbara, Harvey (Mickey), Karen, Jean (Craig), Caroline (Eric)- as well as 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Jacqueline- who affectionately called him ‘Blue Eyes’- and his first wife Lily.
Like all Penhales, Dad was an avid card player, with countless cribbage trophies to prove it. But in later years, his game was Hearts. How apropos. He was our ‘Grand Champion’, and he always will be.
Love you Dad ♥️
