Sylvia Philippe (Leece) was born on May 6, 1933 in Birkenhead, England.

She was the middle child of three with an older brother and younger sister. She grew up during WW11 and was sent to live on a farm with her brother during the bombing. She finished school at 16 and apprenticed as a hairdresser. She ended up becoming a telephone operator and one night went to a dance with a boy and there she met her future husband Derek. They were married two years later and moved to West Africa where their first child, Julie, was born. Over the next twelve years three more children followed while living in Africa, England and eventually immigrating to Canada. Sylvia and Derek lived in Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Powell River, Surrey and eventually retired back to Nanaimo to be near their daughters. Sylvia is survived by her children Julie, Debbie, Andrew and Scott, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Until we meet again, safe travels mom, nanny, great nanny. We love you and will miss you
