It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Winnifred Mary (Jarvis) Andrews, 84, who left us peacefully on September 29, 2020 in Nanaimo, BC. “Winn” was a long time Vancouverite and first generation Canadian born to British parents. She attended Sir Richard McBride Elementary and Vancouver Tech High schools. During those years she enjoyed choir, playing baseball, and making many friendships for which she is cherished and which lasted her entire lifetime. Winn was an avid reader, a sports buff and a wonderful cook and baker, taking great delight in preparing traditional Sunday roast beef and yorkshire pudding dinners for family and friends. While raising two daughters with her first husband Mo, Winn enjoyed a very full and active life which included family picnics, camping trips, sailing trips, lavish holiday gatherings, and hosting dinner parties as well as card nights on weekends which lasted well into the wee hours. After moving to Sidney in 1985, she started bike riding and volunteering in her community where she easily made new friendships. Her energy and zest for life was unmatched, as her high spirit often made her the “life of the party”, noted by her infectious laughter. Winn's strong suit was her natural ability to look at the positive side of things, for when life dealt her lemons she simply made lemonade. Winn was a dedicated and devoted Mother, Grandmother and great-Grandmother. She was perfectly suited for the role given her innate compassion, the attention she paid to other's needs, and as one who always participated with interest in her children and grand children's lives. She loved taking pictures and recording special events documenting these in over 75 albums and scrapbooks. As Winn built a new life for herself with Chuck, she gained two step-children whom she developed close relationships with. Winn and Chuck also shared a mutual love for camping and the outdoors which included many memorable trips with the grandchildren. Winn will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her but she will live on in our hearts eternally. She is predeceased by husbands Mo McLachlan (2008) and Chuck Andrews (2017) and is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Wright (Rick), Wendy McIlroy (Dave), step-son Larry Andrews, step-daughter Cheryl Martin (Chris), grandsons Lindsey Wright, Kyle Wright (Annaelle), Rylan McIlroy (Kaitlin), Tyson McIlroy, and granddaughter Shanleigh McIlroy. Also her great-grandchildren, Madz and Cash McIlroy and Avielle and Maeve Wright. A private outdoor service was held on September 25, 2021, when her ashes were spread along the Qualicum Beach seaside where she loved to sit and watch the sunsets.
