David K. Johnson

He was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, West Virginia, New England Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, and National Foundation of Funeral Service Management in Evanston, Illinois and was certified by the Academy of Funeral Service Practice.

He began working in the funeral industry in 1960. He established the David K. Johnson Funeral Home in Naples, Florida in 1972. David was the President of David K. Johnson-Pittman Funeral Homes in Naples and Bonita Springs from 1989-1997. He retired in 1997 and continued as a Consultant/Funeral Director. David was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and Past District Director of the Florida Funeral Directors Association.

David’s many community involvements included Past President of the Better Business Bureau of Collier County, member of the Citizens Advisory Board for “Long Range Planning of Collier County”, Past President and Founder of the Collier County YMCA, Past Chairman of the Board of the Collier County Golf Authority, Past President of the Collier County Blood Bank (11 Gallon Donor), Past President of the Naples High School Quarterback Club, Member and Past President of the Naples Kiwanis Club (32 year member), Member and Past President of Naples Retirement Inc. (Lely Palms Retirement Center), Member and Past Grand Knight of Naples Knights of Columbus, Member of the Collier County Sheriff’s Citizens Commission, Member and Eucharistic Minister of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

Survived by four sons, Steven K. Johnson, Nicholas C. Johnson, Christopher D. Johnson, Andrew J. Johnson and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 27th from 5:00-7:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 28th at 10:00 AM with Father Timothy Navin officiating. Entombment will follow in Naples Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in David’s memory to the Collier County YMCA (5450 YMCA Road, Naples, FL 34109).
