Donald Albert Roth passed away peacefully in his sleep under Avow Hospice at Bentley Village Care Center in Naples, Florida on November 19, 2024. He recently celebrated his 100th birthday with family on August 20, 2024.
Don is survived by brother Robert Roth of Fort Wayne, IN, son William (Ellen) Roth of Bloomington, IL, grandson Christopher Roth of Bloomington, IL, nephew Robert Roth of Fort Wayne, IN, niece Diane Grant of Columbia, SC, and niece Kathy Hoffmann of Wayland, MI.
He was preceded in death by wife Lena (George) Roth, sister-in-law Donna Roth, and brother-in-law Ronald Forrest. Also preceding him in death in September of 2024 were granddaughter Stephanie Roth and sister-in-law Jacquie (George) Forrest.
Don was born in Flint, Michigan to Albert and Ruth Roth on August 20, 2024. He served in the US Army Air Force in Europe in World War 2. After his return, he graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was in management at Michigan Bell Telephone (later AT&T) for 40 years.
Don focused on work and family in Dearborn Heights, MI during his younger days. He followed University of Michigan football, had an extraordinarily dry sense of humor and was a master of the pun. His main goals in life were to put son Bill through college and later move with Lee to the perfect retirement community. Bill graduated from UofM too, and Don and Lee succeeded in moving down to Bentley Village in Naples, Florida in 2000. Don was a dedicated, loving husband and caregiver to Lee. Lee passed away in 2004. Don spent the majority of the rest of his life at Bentley in an independent apartment, taking part in activities and building management. In more recent years, he graduated into Bentley’s assisted living and later into their care center.
Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. Don will join wife Lee in a sunny columbarium by the beach. The family asks for no donations or flowers, only that you honor Don by being good to others.
