Edward Joseph Sobolewski, Jr. passed away on Saturday, November 24th at the age of 83. Ed was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 15, 1935 and grew up in Newark, DE, where he attended Newark High School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his law degree from Georgetown University. After his admission to the Delaware State Bar Association in 1962, Ed served as Deputy Attorney General for two years; he then had a successful private practice, which he continued until 1985. Upon retirement from the law, Ed began developing and building commercial real estate in Newark. He was both acknowledged for and proud of his numerous contributions to the city's substantial business and student housing growth.
In the mid-1970's Ed formed a man's biking group known as the MUMS. Eight men would ride from Newark to Rehoboth Beach, DE, a one hundred mile trip, where they would play beach volleyball, tennis and golf. The MUMS still continue to ride each year on the first Thursday after Labor Day.
Ed is survived by his wife, Kay, with whom he celebrated their 54th anniversary last February, his daughter, Kent (Edie), his sister, Nancy, his brother, Mike (Jan) and their sons, Jeff (Heather) and
Kenny (Maureen). He spent his retirement years in Naples, FL among many good friends.
Ed and his True Stories and quotes will be missed by his many friends and his family.
Services will be held privately amongst family at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to:
