

Ellen Pennypacker Jackson, 77, of Brandon, MS passed away in Ave Maria, Florida on December 26, 2020. Ellen was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 4, 1943 to Jane and Tom Pennypacker. She graduated from Wesley College in Dover, DE. Ellen married Byron William Jackson (Bill) and together they had one daughter, Jennifer Lynn. Ellen worked for several years in various secretarial positions before she became a homemaker to stay home and raise her daughter which was her greatest joy. She was very active in volunteer organizations including being a part of the Rankin County Junior Auxiliary of which she obtained the status of Life Member. She was very active with the Ladies’ Civic Improvement Association (LCIA) at New Piasa Chautauqua, IL where she and Bill enjoyed their retirement years. Ellen also contributed much time and energy with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life program following the death of her husband to cancer, and enjoyed the fellowship with the Women With Faith Sunday school class at St. Marks UMC in Brandon, MS. Her greatest accomplishment and pride was being a grandmother (Mimi) to her two granddaughters and grandson, and she thrived on being an active part of their lives. In her most recent years, Ellen enjoyed travelling and spending time with her companion and friend, Al Johnson, who provided her much happiness until her unexpected passing. Ellen will be remembered by all who knew her by her beautiful smile, welcoming disposition, and generosity to help others. She will be missed greatly by those who had the pleasure to know and love her.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Jackson Montgomery (Richard), granddaughters (Tanner Brooke Smith and Jordan Lynn Smith) and grandson (William Walker Smith), a sister, Nancy Hill (Lannie), her companion, Allen Johnson, many cousins she was close to, a niece, nephews, and a host of friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Jackson, and parents, Jane and Tom Pennypacker.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Parkway Memorial Cemetery on Highland Colony in Ridgeland, MS on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ellen's name to the American Cancer Society or the New Piasa Chautauqua Church Assembly at New Piasa Chautauqua, 12584 Fern Glen Valley Road, Grafton, IL 62037.
