Howard Solot passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, in Naples, FL. He was born to Adolf and Ann Solot in New York on January 23, 1938. He grew up with his older sister Barbara, across the street from his cousins, who he always thought of as his brothers.
When he was 15 years old, he met the love of his life, Janet (Salpeter), during High Holidays services. They were married for 65 wonderful years. He was a devoted dad and a cherished father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Janet Solot; children Marsha (Robert) Karp and Michael (Julie) Solot; and grandchildren Tyler and Melissa Karp, and Rebecca, Ariana, and Daniel Solot.
Howard graduated with an Engineering degree from Cooper Union College in New York City. He effectively spent his entire career as a key leader of the Werner Company, his family’s business. Howard started learning all aspects of the business from the bottom up and grew to lead various areas or initiatives of the company including manufacturing, engineering, and IT, culminating as the Executive VP/Chief Operating Officer and Board member. Over decades, he and his cousins and colleagues helped transform Werner into one of the world’s largest and strongest ladder companies.
Retiring at the age of sixty, he and Janet made Naples, Florida their home. They built a beautiful, full life in the sunshine with their beloved dogs and many close friends.
For the next 25 years, Howard and Janet would travel the world together, oftentimes with their family, and took the time to travel individually with each of their five grandchildren. They were always there to celebrate their family’s joys and accomplishments. Howard fully embraced his role as a Poppy, constantly making his grandchildren laugh, while guiding them as they grew into the young adults of whom he was so proud.
As a volunteer leader, Howard was involved in community organizations, including his synagogues in Sharon, PA and Naples, FL, the Jewish Federations of Youngstown and Greater Naples, and the Baker Senior Center, offering his time, acumen, and support. Howard was a mentor to many. His curiosity, wisdom, and sparkling sense of humor made an impact on everyone who met him. Among Howard’s greatest accomplishments were the deep, meaningful relationships he built with people everywhere he went. Together with Janet, he leaves a legacy of kindness, integrity, generosity, and love.
A funeral service for Howard will be held Friday, August 2, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Temple Shalom, 4630 Pine Ridge Rd, Naples, Florida 34119.
