
He was born to the late John and Elizabeth Hackett on September 12, 1930 in the Bronx, NY, and was the brother of the late John Joseph Hackett, U.S. Navy, LTJG and the nephew of the late Irene Crane. Hugh graduated from Ardsley High School in 1948 and Columbia College in 1952 and served in the United States Army until 1955, during which time he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He married Regina Mary Purce on October 4, 1958 and they lived in Sayville, NY for almost 40 years prior to relocating to Naples, FL.
Hugh was a successful real estate investor, who developed properties for 7-Eleven and numerous oil companies, including BP Amoco, Shell and Texaco. He was an avid reader of biographies and history, enjoyed jogging and working out at his local gym, and derived immense pleasure over the years spending time with his dogs, Schultz, Baron and Finnegan.
Hugh is survived by his wife Regina, their four (4) children, Hugh, John and his wife Maureen, Christopher and Elizabeth, his daughter-in-law Rita and four (4) grandchildren, Hugh III, Christopher Luke, Caitlin and Jack.
The family would like to extend a special note of gratitude to Christine O’Neil, James “Elmo” Wright and Ahmed Jalloh for their tireless dedication and indispensable assistance during Hugh’s recent illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 2:00 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Avenue North, Naples, Florida with entombment to follow at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Avenue North, Naples, FL.
In lieu of flowers, any memorial donations may be made in honor of Hugh Crane Hackett and sent to Catholic Charities (www.catholiccharitiesusa.org), The Salvation Army (www.salvationarmyusa.org) and/or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (www.aspca.org).
