

He was born September 27, 1941 in Yonkers, NY and graduated from Hastings-On-Hudson, NY schools. James was the son of the late James and Emma Schultz Charlton. After high school James joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1962.
In 1969 Mr. Charlton, together with his longtime friend and partner, William B. Adams, co-founded The Fleetwood Montessori School in Mount Vernon, NY where he actively participated in many of the schools functions. In addition, he served on the board of the school's James and Emma Memorial Scholarship fund.
For many years Mr. Charlton worked for a specialty insurance company on John Street in New York City. In later years he was employed by M & H Food Brokers in Tarrytown, NY. He remained there until 1997 when he retired to Naples, FL. In 2008 Mr. Charlton moved to Pinehurst, NC where he resided until his death.
Mr. Charlton is survived by his longtime Partner, Bill Adams; five cousins and many dear friends. His smiling face will be missed.
Relatives and friends will be received at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave. N, Naples, FL 34108 on Monday, December 5, 2011 from 10:00am until 11:00am when funeral services will begin. Interment to follow at Naples Memorial Gardens.
