He was born in La Crosse, WI to Helen Lucille and Clemens Henry Knothe. He was the second of 8 children.
He earned his degree in Architecture from the University of Minnesota in 1954. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served between 1945 and 1946.
He married Donice Peterson in 1948 and enjoyed a family of five boys and 4 girls. He was preceeded in death by Donice in 1981.
He is survived by his wife Beverly Wehman Knothe who he married in 1984 and his children and their families.
