Joan was predeceased by her first husband of 50 years, Robert Shultz, and her second husband of 12 years, Paul Henn. Joan had one brother, William Rasp, who was 14 years her junior and predeceased her by 2 months, passing on June 17th, 2021.
Joan has three daughters, Sharon Dexmier, Cynthia Redline, and Sandra Henning. She has four amazing grandchildren,
Alana Bournas, Griffin Henning, Robin Redline, and Robert John Redline, whom she loved dearly.
There was only one thing Joan loved as much as her family and that was her precious dog Zoey. She was not an animal lover until Zoey entered her life. After Zoey, she befriended every dog she met.
Joan grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but lived for many years in Troy, Michigan. She raised her family in Michigan and built a successful manufacturing rep business with her husband Robert. After Robert’s death in 2000 she became an active member of St. Thomas More’s choir. She found the perfect outlet for her love of music in the choir. It was in the choir that she met her second husband Paul Henn, whom she married in 2008. After she and Paul married, they moved to Naples, Florida.
Joan was an artist and channeled her creative energy through painting, pottery, and interior design. She loved Asian art and collected artifacts from China, often incorporating them into her interior design projects.
She loved to travel and study other cultures. She visited China, Egypt, Italy, France, Australia, among other countries.
Joan embodied restrained elegance. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was gentle but strong, supportive and non-judgmental to friends and family. She saw the good in every situation and every person she met.
Joan walked fearlessly through life. She relied on her deep and abiding faith to sustain her through life’s challenges. She always picked herself up when life’s storms knocked her down and lived with courage and optimism throughout her 89 years. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her.
Her family is forever grateful for Ketly Theresias’s support and care for the last three years of Joan’s life. Joan loved Ketly like one of her own and the bond between them was incredibly strong. No one could have asked for a better companion to care for her towards the end of her life.
Joan will be laid to rest in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in her name.
