John Coscia, 88, of Naples, Florida passed peacefully on December 13, 2016. Born on March 17, 1928 in Salerno, Italy, to John and Adele (nee Ferrara) Coscia, he made the journey to America in 1954 to join his brother and sisters.
After more than a decade as a barber in his native Italy, he proudly cut and styled hair in his second homeland – Brooklyn, New York for years to come. John also served his community as an NYPD auxiliary policeman for nearly twenty years. In 1991, he made the move to Naples, Florida to enjoy the Florida sunshine and his Winter Park pool which he worshipped!
John, as his friends and family would readily say, “He was one-of-a-kind!” Indeed he was, but most of all he loved his family – his brother, sisters, and multitude of nephews and nieces both here and abroad. He was a friend of many because he was absolute about his kindness, generosity and love.
John was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Anna Gale, Nancy Ferrara and Teresa; and his brother, Joseph. He is survived by his sisters, Silvia Voto and Lola Buonpane as well as many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of Service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens 525 111th Ave. N., Naples, FL 34108. Entombment will follow in Naples Memorial Gardens.
