John served in the US Marine Corp for four years in WW II (Pacific Theater) as a Staff Sergeant. He retired from U.S. Customs as an Inspector in 1979. John was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Niagara Falls, NY.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Sophia (Tomcyak) and a son Michael Sliwa.
John is survived by his children, Thomas J. (Christine) Sliwa, David (Patricia) Sliwa all of Naples, FL, and Susan Foley of Sieverville, TN; Sisters, Jean (Louis) DiCarlos and Joan (Albert) Serbinowski all of Boston, NY; One grandson, Aaron (Sharon) Mentkowski; two step-grandsons, Todd Searles and David Searles; and three great-grandchildren, Robby, Jacob and Brady of Amherst, NY.
Burial will take place at Naples Memorial Gardens.
