Maureen was the daughter of Peter and Dorothy Ryan. Born August 6, 1940 into a large Irish American family, Maureen grew up on the busy family dairy farm in central New Jersey with her brothers Peter and Patrick and her sister Kathleen. It was on the farm that Maureen learned the importance of Catholic faith and family and dedication to hard work and service.
Her commitment to the simplicity and strength of these core values was evident in every life encounter, framed her recognizable joy for life and carried her through tragic times including the loss of Richard her beloved first husband of forty-two years, Bill her loving son in law and Maureen her precious and loved granddaughter.
Maureen committed her life to caring for others and service to community, first as a registered nurse, then as the loving wife of Richard Nevin, Jr, and mother of four children and grandmother of fourteen. Always busy and focused on helping others, along the way Maureen worked for a local optometrist, served as a nursing educator for a local hospital, taught at a community business school and was active in the community. More recently and after her marriage to Jay Corrigan, Maureen spent more time in Naples, volunteering at Naples Community Hospital and becoming active at St. William Catholic Church.
Maureen cherished her role as the loving matriarch of a large family. Deeply rooted in the simplicity of faith and family, Maureen would walk to daily mass at St. William. She was a Eucharistic Minister for the sick and served as a member of the Council of Catholic Women.
Left to honor Maureen’s memory and follow in her example are her four children Richard, Elizabeth, Peter (Kristi), Michelle, her thirteen grandchildren, her second husband Jay Corrigan, two step-children and one step-grandchild.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Dorothy Ryan, the love of her life and husband of 42 years Richard Nevin, Jr., her son in law Bill Burns, and her granddaughter Maureen.
Funeral services will be held at St. William Catholic Church, Naples, FL at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022. A visitation for Maureen will be held at Hodges Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on the evening of January 5th. Private burial will follow at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Cape May, New Jersey.
