

Michael Joseph Mattia, 91, of Naples, Florida went home to the Lord on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. He was born to Joseph and Angelina (Cecera) Mattia on April 23, 1930 in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Michael graduated from Bloomfield High School and Seton Hall University with a degree in Education. After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, Michael became a dedicated educator in the Bloomfield Public Schools for over 40 years, where he taught physical education and elementary school. Michael lived in Little Falls, New Jersey for over 30 years, where he served as president of both the Little Falls and Passaic County Boards of Education, as well as the Little Falls Board of Adjustment. He was also very involved in local athletics and served as president of the Little Falls Jr. Hornets Football Association. Michael moved to Naples, Florida in 2003 where he and his wife, Darlene enjoyed the beach, spending time with his family and traveling often.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of over 47 years, Darlene (Russo) Mattia, sons Michael J. Mattia II, Gregory Mattia and daughter Michelle (Mattia) Marks and son in law Robert Marks, grandchildren Michael J. Mattia II, Jake Patrick Marks, and Cooper Joseph Marks, great grandson Michael J. Mattia III, sister Catherine (Mattia) Federici, brother in law Armand Federici, sister in law Barbara Cuccinello, nephews and nieces Armand Federici and his wife Marilyn Federici, Angela (Federici) Murphy and her husband Frank Murphy, Joseph Federici, Robert Cuccinello and his wife Nicole (Ward) Cuccinello, David Cuccinello and his wife Rainy Kumar, and great nephews and niece Carmine Cuccinello, Anthony Cuccinello, Miles Cuccinello and Zoe Cuccinello.
