Born June 23, 1939, in Ohio to Anne Busse and Herbert Richards, Paul graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in mathematics and earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University.
Paul enjoyed a long and respected career as an ophthalmologist, specializing in glaucoma care and lens-replacement surgery, serving patients in Columbus and Marysville, Ohio. After retiring, he moved to Naples, where he enjoyed gardening, tennis, golf, bridge, sunsets on the Gulf, and cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Paul is survived by his children Jennifer Richards Secrest (Cary), John S. Richards (Naomi), and Courtney A. Clark (Max Zoberman), and by his grandchildren Danielle Brown Sufitchi, Fey M. Brown (Fen Kennedy), Mitchell Richards, and Isabella Richards. He was preceded in death by his partner, Kay Drolet, and his daughter Julie Clark.
