Pilar Maria Garcia Montes, 93, Naples Florida, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2022 surrounded by her family. Pilar was born in Havana Cuba on January 7, 1929 to Dr. Eduardo Salazar and Sina Dorado McGovern.
Pilar and husband Sergio fled Cuba in 1960 to South Florida. After two years in Fort Myers they moved to Naples. Pilar loved living in Naples and was an avid tennis player. She was also involved in many local charities and organizations. While her husband worked as an engineer for Gulf American, she started the Golden Gate Gazette. Pilar was also president of the Mental Health Association, board member of Marine Savings and Loan, commissioner on the Florida Real Estate commission, and active volunteer in many local charities.
Pilar is survived by her daughters Lourdes (Luli) Montes & Lillian (Lili) Montes; grandsons Charles Montes Ellis and David Montes Sabula; and one great grand daughter Averi Sabula. She was preceded in death by her husband Sergio Garcia Montes.
Pilar loved being an American and grateful for all its freedom, but her heart always belonged to Cuba.
A visitation for Pilar will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hodges Funeral Home At Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, Florida 34108, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
