Born on May 20, 1928, in Passaic, New Jersey he was an only child. His parents, Anna Fersch and Emil Weissenborn, originally immigrated to the United States from Germany. After earning a degree in Electrical Industrial Engineering at National Electric in Passaic, Robert and his family decided to head for warmer weather.
Moving here in 1948, at the age of 19, he founded Naples Armature Works, the area's first and oldest electric motor company. Naples Armature Works is still family owned and operated three generations later and was Robert's greatest life accomplishment. Up until he passed away, he loved coming to work every single day and seeing his closely knit family hard at work beside him. He spent years growing his loyal customer base and enjoyed seeing his regulars day after day. A great story teller - his memories and fondness of Naples will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene; son Robert (Sally), daughter Janet (Bryan), five grandchildren (Chris, Randy, Jackie, Jennifer, and RJ) and two great-grandchildren (Oliver and Savannah).
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Hodges Funeral Home, 525 111th Avenue North, Naples, FL 34108. Burial will follow immediately in the Weissenborn Family Estate at Naples Memorial Gardens. The Service will be officiated by the Catholic Priest of Saint Johns, Father Rourke.
