

Roland E. Fondessy went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 8th 2023. Born December 14th, 1936 to Walter and Edna Fondessy, Roland grew up in and around the Genoa Clay Center area of Ohio. He started working at age seven mowing grass and collecting scrap metal. He started his own trash collection business in 1954 using a pick-up truck two years before graduating from Clay High School in 1956. After graduation he married Suzanne (Peaney) Fondessy and had two children, Deb (Turnow) and Roland A. (Rollie) Fondessy. His brothers, Robert and Richard, joined him in his business, along with his mother and father. Fondessy Enterprises was incorporated in 1956 and Roland served as the Vice President. He also served as the President of Ace Oil Services as well as Jeffers Crane Service (acquired in 1972).
Roland valued his membership with the Ohio Contractors Association. He served on the advisory board of Mid Am National Bank and the Golden Gate Estates Board in Naples Fl. In 2010, Roland found another calling helping to build the congregation of, and ultimately the building for, First Congregational Church of Naples. He served as a Board member, as well as Board President. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, his ex-wife Suzanne, and daughter-in-law, Rebecca Fondessy. He is survived by his life partner of 41 years Patsy Peterson, daughter Deb (Jeff) Turnow, son Rollie, four grandchildren and nine great grand-children, and Patsy’s son and daughter-in-law, Colonel Jonathon (Chris) Goff U.S.MC. ret., Carmen, and their three children.
Services will take place on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at First Congregational Church of Naples (6630 Immokalee Rd, Naples, Florida, 34119) with a Visitation from 12:00pm-1:00pm and a Funeral Service at 1:00pm. Entombment at Palm Royale Cemetery to follow (6790 Vanderbilt Beach Rd, Naples, Florida, 34119).
