Sean’s passing marks the end of an extraordinary journey filled with courage, kindness, and unwavering commitment to those around him. A proud graduate of Southport High School, Class of 1986, Sean forged a remarkable path as a decorated professional firefighter with Brownsburg Fire Territory, serving faithfully for 26 years. He was a valued member of both Ladder 131 and Engine 132, earning the respect and admiration of his peers through his steadfast dedication and exemplary service.
Beyond his firefighting career, Sean devoted himself to community projects such as Project Lifesaver and was actively involved with the Hendricks County Union, always striving to make a meaningful impact. His strong work ethic was evident in every endeavor he undertook, whether selling Harley Davidson motorcycles, flipping houses, serving as an EMT at Connor Prairie, or running Superior Handyman Services. Sean’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Atkinson Firearms in Greenwood, Indiana, a business he grew with a deep commitment to customer service and firearm safety, making it his full-time role in March 2020.
In December 2025, Sean closed the doors of Atkinson Firearms to embark on new adventures—traveling with his beloved wife Kati and embracing life’s joys. His passions extended well beyond work: Sean cherished time spent with family and friends, reveled in football (especially cheering for the Hoosiers), and had a lifelong love for things that go fast.
Sean was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Sonya Atkinson, and three sisters, Erin McConnell, Lashelli S. Martin, and Desiree Munz. He is survived by his loving “lovely beautiful” wife Kati and his best Little Man Stanley, his two daughters, Jordan and Kaitlyn Atkinson from his first marriage, his brother Floyd Mitchell, his sister Kim Edwards, dear niece Nicolette Gibbs, and many other nieces and nephews. He so enjoyed spending time with his expanded family, Kati’s parents Richard and Bonnie Ramseyer, and her brothers Fred, Erich and Rob Ramseyer and their families.
Sean will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to others. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the hearts he inspired. He leaves behind a loving family and countless friends who will miss him dearly but will forever celebrate the remarkable life he led.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
